I think this topic is something that's talked about a lot in Christian circles. Being strong enough. Can I add anything new to it? I doubt it. I guess that today's Tenth Avenue North concert at Soulfest got me thinking. Christians, in my opinion, are the ones who are the most guilty of not trusting in God's ability to save us from who we were.
We're so quick to tell nonbelievers all about Jesus and who He is and what He's done--however, when it comes to us and how we deal with ourselves and our walk with Christ we tend to miss the most obvious thing. We're no different than non-Christians. We've only accepted that we're screwed up and were paid for by the blood of Christ. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not painting the entire Church in a negative light. We're all guilty of sin, and Jesus Christ died for us all. It doesn't matter who we are, where we've been, or where we're going. Well, on that last one, where we're going should be where Christ wants us to go (I'll blog about that later on).
Jesus Christ didn't die and rise again so we could revel in our self-created pride. Yes, by all means, take pride in what joy and love Jesus has for you--but also remember to accept that the new creation in us is still going to be coming under attack from the enemy. I'm not one for being like "it's a WAR out there!" or this new wave of "offensive living." I'm one for doing what God has commanded and laid down in His Holy Word. In that word, we read of churches that are going through all the right motions, but in their hearts it's all bleak, dark, and empty. Religion isn't going to be what saves us. Looking like a good Christian isn't going to be what saves us. Telling people all the right theology and doctrine doesn't save us--if we went by that token, you could argue that demons would be saved simply because they know what Scripture says. Jesus Christ, son of God, one third of the Triune God died and conquered death. He is STRONG enough to save us. He is the ONLY thing strong enough to save us. If we were made to stand upon our own strength, we'd all sink and fail. Christians, non-Christians, and anybody else reading this--Jesus Christ is the only thing that will save you from yourselves. He's DESPERATE to know you!
