Luke 1:1-4
Pastor Jim's sermon last night was something so basic, yet something that a lot of people really overlook. Our faith as Christians isn't one which is put in things unseen; I mean, nobody has seen God, Moses had to turn away from God when he was in his presence, but who I'm talking about is Jesus. What we have in the Bible are direct accounts written by people who saw these things happen-it wasn't just hear say from a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who's sister's brother in law thinks he saw it happen. The apostles all saw the life of Jesus and the things that only THE son of God could perform. So for others to accuse us of having this so called "blind faith" really has no foundation at all. What we have in God's word was real: it happened, and it was recorded by people who saw it first hand.
Unlike Mormonism, for example, our faith is put in something that was visible. Jesus was and is just as real as any person in history. George Washington? Yup. Henry VIII? Sure. Julius Ceasar? You bet. People saw the crucifixion, and then the resurrection. Without that, our faith would be nothing. He conquered death to give us all eternal life. Mormonism, according to the testament of Joseph Smith, recieved Golden Tablets containing information from the angel Moroni and then recieved divine interpretation ability to read this Egyptian papyrus.
Did anybody besides Joseph Smith see these golden tablets? No. Moroni conveniently took them back to heaven. Oh, and that Egyptian papyrus that was supposedly written by Abraham? Smithsonian scholars translated it and it's nothing more than a guide on how to perform a burial ritual according to ancient Egyptian tradition. This isn't meant to be a bash on Mormonism; it's only indicating that what Mormons have is blind faith. We as Christians, do not. We have proof in the Bible that was God breathed and written down so that others may know the truth of Jesus and the amazing work of redemption he did on the cross-what does Mormonism have? The word of a man who had a horrible reputation as a liar and a horse thief and someone who had the abilility to convince a population in need of something. It's just a shame that people listened to him over the truth of God.
The apostles died to proclaim the the truth of what they saw and KNEW to be true. People saw Jesus after he rose from the dead. From what I can see, the Mormons still haven't seen those golden tablets. Muslims are still waiting for that supposed hidden Imam who will come to rid the world of evil. If you want proof of Christ's existence and the resurrection, open a Bible.
